Authors and film fans will gather to celebrate a famous "Outsider," poet Charles Bukowski, at a showing of "Barfly," a semi-autobiographical film that the author wrote.
The film will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. at Cinematique, 242 S. Beach St., Daytona Beach.
Live Poets Society president, Robert Blenheim, will introduce the film, which stars Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway. Dr. David Axelrod will discuss Bukowski's poetry and the notion that poets often cast themselves in the roll of misfits. Time Magazine characterized Mr. Bukowski as "Laureate of American lowlife," and the New York Times referred to him as his own "pulp fiction hero."
Ticket prices are $7 or $5 for members of Cinematique. For more information, call (386) 252-3118.
