City opens business assistance center

The City of Deltona opened its Business Assistance Center Tuesday, Dec. 4, with representatives from the city and county governments as well as the Center for Business Excellence, SCORE and the West Volusia Chamber of Commerce.

The center is on the first floor of Deltona City Hall, South Wing, Room 51, and will serve as a location for area business organizations to conduct seminars and information sessions. The center is seeing clients and the Center for Business Excellence and SCORE have begun conducting classes.

Henin Homes sales up 300 percent

Henin Homes will start construction of two ready-to-move-in luxury homes in December at Riviera Bella, overlooking the St. Johns River in DeBary.

Matt Boltz, director of sales and operations at Henin Homes, said one of the new homes will offer four bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths in 2,354 square feet of living space with a two-car garage.

Mr. Boltz said the home will be priced at $290,000 when it opens in the spring.

A second home, with four bedrooms and two baths in 2,396 square feet of space with a two-car garage, will be priced at $310,000.

Mr. Boltz said sales of luxury homes at Riviera Bella in 2012 are up more than 300 percent over 2011.

Henin Homes reports it sold 24 new homes at Riviera Bella since Jan. 1. Mr. Boltz said revenue of more than $8 million represents a 300 percent increase over 2011 sales.

City of Deltona welcomes Dollar General

The city of Deltona welcomed the first of two Dollar General retail stores with a groundbreaking ceremony at the southwest Deltona location, Stratford Commons, on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Dollar General also is building at a second location at 3016 Howland Blvd.

Both stores are expected to be open to the public by early 2013.

New mobile phone and accessory delivers live WESH-TV broadcasts to Apple mobile products

WESH 2 broadcasts are now available on iPhones, iPads and Wi-Fi-enabled iPods via a new accessory device.

The Elgato EyeTV Mobile accessory, available on Amazon.com, enables users to watch live TV on their iPad and iPhone. The compact TV tuner connects directly and easily to the mobile device's dock connector port. EyeTV Mobile features a miniature telescopic antenna for convenient portability, with an alternative rod antenna included for enhanced reception at home or office.

Learning center to host open house

The Daytona Beach Computer Learning Center will have an open house from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 14, 524 S. Beach St., Suite A, Daytona Beach.

Learn about the computer courses the center offers to adults 50 and older. Classes are specially developed for seniors. Students must have their own computer.

A PowerPoint slideshow, given every 30 minutes, will explain what the center is about, and there will be an opportunity to register for upcoming classes.

Yoga certification workshop offered

Dance Express Productions and the National Exercise Trainers Association, a nonprofit professional association, are co-sponsoring a Yoga Specialty Certification workshop from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at 1501 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill.

The two-day workshop covers 27 poses, standing, seated and balance theory, breathing anatomy, therapeutic and resting poses, safety cues, modifications with props, formatting a class, alignment strategies, and meditation.

The workshop fee is $349 or $299 if paid by Dec. 13.

The Hometown Business Alliance is back in Ormond Beach for its December "Twosdays" event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at LuLu's Oceanside Grill located at 30 S. Atlantic Ave.

Local executive appointed to national insurance committees

Shelley Stewart, president of Southern Title Holding Co. and past president of the Florida Land Title Association, has been named to two national committees that will guide policies of the insurance industry.

Ms. Stewart, president of Southern Title since it was founded in 1995, will serve as an agent liaison on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Industry Liaison Committee. The committee meets bi-annually to discuss issues of common interest to state regulators and insurance industry representatives.

At the American Land Title Association annual convention in October, Ms. Stewart was named to the ALTA Government Affairs committee, which is charged with developing strategies to achieve the group's federal legislative and regulatory objectives.

She was recently named associate vice president of the Florida Home Builders Association.

Two Florida Hospital leaders selected as

council examiners

Michele Goeb-Burkett, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical center vice-president for clinical services and chief nursing officer, and Kelly Rogers, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center executive director of clinical effectiveness, have been selected as examiners for the Florida Sterling Council for the 2012-2013 cycle.

Founded in 1992, the council's mission is to enhance Florida's competitive edge and quality of life through the assessment and recognition of performance excellence, culminating in the governor's Sterling Award.

Based on the National Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence, the Sterling Criteria provides a framework and assessment tool for understanding organizational strengths and opportunities for improvement. The Governor's Sterling Award is Florida's state level version of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

As examiners, Ms. Goeb-Burkett and Ms. Rogers are responsible for reviewing and evaluating applications submitted, as well as assisting in on-site reviews of organizations applying for the award.

Real estate agents earn distressed certification

Chris and Dale Heuermann of Exit Plan Realty in Port Orange have earned the Certified Distressed Property Expert designation, having completed training in foreclosure avoidance, with a particular emphasis on short sales.

The Heuermanns also earned the OwnAmerica Investment Certification and join the OwnAmerica Network, a national affiliation of real estate investment specialists. This move allows the Heuermanns to offer analysis tools, tutorials and a video training series to clients during one of the biggest real estate investment booms in history.
