FRIDAY, NOV. 30

Clinic to host golf tournament: It is time for the Third Annual Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine Golf Tournament, Friday Nov. 30, at Baytree National Golf Links. Cost for a solo player is $150, $600 for a foursome, and includes lunch, golf, gift bag and more! Corporate sponsorships are available for $1,500, which includes the above plus marketing, promotion and special recognition. Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine provides free medical, dental and chiropractic care to the uninsured of Brevard County. From California or lived there: The California State Club is comprised of people who have lived in or come from California. The next get-together will be a luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 30, and instead of a restaurant, this will be a potluck at a clubhouse. The group will meet at 12:30 p.m. in the Melbourne area. Coats for Kids Drive: Coats for Kids is a countywide initiative to combat the growing problem of children without winter coats. During the previous two drives, more than 2,000 coats were collected for Brevard children in need. The Coats for Kids drive will run through Dec. 1. This year, only new coats will be collected. All Brevard County libraries are drop-off locations. Residents can give the coats to the employees at the front desk. This year's drive will benefit Brevard Family Partnership. Gator Club offers $4,500 in scholarships: The Brevard County Gator Club, with a donation from the Brevard Tropical Fruit Club, has three $1,500 scholarships available to Brevard high school seniors or Brevard County students presently attending the University of Florida as an undergraduate or graduate student. Students must be entering the fields or be presently enrolled full time in the fields of agricultural or horticultural studies. The deadline to apply is Nov. 30. Playwright's workshop: The Surfside Players will host a playwright's workshop through Dec. 2, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. The Surfside Players of Brevard, who discus and develop original one-act plays by Brevard County authors, premieres the plays on Surfside's stage, 300 Ramp Road, Cocoa Beach. SATURDAY, DEC. 1

Fun life events scheduled: Brevard County Parks and Recreation and Health First present the second annual Run Brevard ReCreate Your Life 5K Race Series beginning Dec. 1. The series will kick off with the Reindeer Dash 5K and Jingle Bell Walk and the Brevard Health and Wellness Expo at the Viera Regional Community Center, 2300 Judge Fran Jamieson Way in Viera. The race begins at 8 a.m. with registration from 7-7:45 a.m. The Health and Wellness Expo runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Run Brevard Race Series will include five more races held at various parks throughout southern Brevard County. Participants who pre-register for five of the six races will receive a prize. Pre-registration forms must be received seven days prior to each race. Pre-registration fees are $14 per runner and $11 per walker. Day-of-race fees cost $18 per runner and $12 per walker. Sponsorship, support for furry companions: The Central Brevard Humane Society will host the 10th annual Paws in the Park "Celebrating Friendships With Our Furry Companions That Last a Lifetime" on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wickham Park Main Pavilion in Melbourne (located on the grounds of Brevard Community College's Melbourne campus on North Wickham Road). Sponsorship opportunities are available for individuals and businesses at all levels, beginning at $100 for the bronze paws sponsorship and up to $1,000 and above for the primary sponsorship, platinum paws. This annual features extensive promotion and offers a bang for your buck for sponsors all while having high charitable returns for the homeless animals in the community. The cost for businesses to be a part of the vendor village at Paws in the Park is $50. All rescue groups may participate at no charge (pending space availability). Vendors and rescue groups must supply their own tables, chairs, promotional materials, display racks and setup staff. This pet fundraiser will kick-off with a quarter mile "pooch" walk-a-thon around the Wickham Park main pavilion, led by the Paws and Stripes program participants. The top three walkers with the most pledge dollars will receive a prize and the first 75 walkers with pledges of $20 or more receive a free "Paws in the Park" T-shirt. All proceeds raised from this event will directly benefit the homeless animals in Brevard County. Beach festival: Satellite Beach's Pelican Beach Park, 1525 Highway A1A, Satellite Beach, will be the site for the Ocean Reef Beach Festival Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A combination of food, music, live entertainment, artwork, environmental displays, educational activities and centers will all come together to create a uniqueness never seen before in this area. Free activities will be provided for all ages focusing on ocean, reef and beach fun such as conservation, surfing, fishing, kayaking, marine art, stand up paddling, sea-beaning and other related topics displayed in revolving educational centers.

Free Santa visits: The Petite Boutiques (formerly the Christmas Cottage), 1002 E. New Haven Ave., Melbourne, is sponsoring free Santa visits from 1-4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Bring your own camera. 'The Bible on Parade:' A moving drama with costumed characters takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Melbourne Auditorium, 625 E. Hibiscus Blvd., Melbourne. The 23rd annual Christian Christmas Procession will feature hot dogs, cakes and drinks, live music and presentations. For more information, visit www.thebibleonparade.org.

Lighting the way for children: Devereux's 100th anniversary's "Lighting the Way for Children" will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Brevard Zoo, 8225 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne. Cost is $125 per person. Proceeds from this event will help fund the new Wellness, Learning and Activity Center at the Devereux Florida Campus in Viera. Stocking stuffers: A great gift for your friends and family this holiday season is the Central Brevard Humane Society's 2013 "Best Pets of Brevard" Calendar. This year, the calendar will be $6 each in honor of the Central Brevard Humane Society's 60th anniversary. Copies can be purchased at the Humane Society, 1020 Cox Road, Cocoa, any of the four Molly Mutt Thrift Shops, located in downtown Melbourne, Merritt Island, Palm Bay and Rockledge, local veterinary offices and online at crittersavers.com. Proceeds from sales will help raise awareness and financial support for the thousands of unwanted and abandoned pets that visit the shelter each year, who need a safe and loving "forever" home. Perform at the mall: Tis the season to be jolly! Warm up those vocals and put on your dancing shoes because Melbourne Square Mall is seeking a variety of holiday entertainers. All types of choirs, dance troupes, musical acts and more are invited to perform at the mall during the 2012 holiday season. The Melbourne Square Mall is at 1700 W. New Haven Ave., Melbourne. TUESDAY, DEC. 4

Women voters to hold holiday luncheon: The League of Women Voters of the Space Coast will hold its holiday luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club, 100 Datura Drive, Indian Harbour Beach at 11:30 a.m. The guest of honor will be league member Vera Walker, who will be celebrating her 100th birthday on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Ms. Walker came to Brevard County in the 1960s from Jacksonville and is an honorary life member of the league, with membership exceeding 50 years of participation. She served two terms on the Brevard County School Board, running unopposed the second time. She has been a dedicated supporter of the Space Coast Pops orchestra from its inception, is a life member of the American Association of University Women and belongs to, and is still active in, the Florida Historical Society; Rockledge Presbyterian Church, where she served as deacon; the Women's Club of Cocoa; and the Friends of the Central Library. THURSDAY, DEC. 6

Holiday membership luncheon: The Republican Women's Network of South Brevard will present a luncheon at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club, Indian Harbour Beach. The Drum Corp and singers from the Diamond Community School of Palm Bay will be performing, as well as Louise Muffly, who will be providing live holiday piano music. The lunch buffet is at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $20 per person or $5 without lunch. Please bring an unwrapped book suitable for grades kindergarten through 12th grade for the Diamond School library. Home school art and physical education classes offered: Brevard County South Area Parks and Recreation is offering home school art and physical education classes on Thursday afternoons at the Rodes Park Community Center, inside the new Max K. Rodes Park, 3410 Flanagan Ave, West Melbourne. Art class is from noon to 1 p.m. and physical education is from 1-2 p.m. Classes are for children ages 5-12. The cost is $2 per child per class. Additional supply charges may apply to art class. Home-school art will focus on creativity and imagination. P.E. will focus on teaching cooperation and teamwork and keeping children active. Miniature art show, presentation and reception: The 2012 art in miniature exhibit will take place during December for the fourth year in a row. These 6-inch by 6-inch artistic jewels will be on display at Art and Antique Studio and Gallery for the public enjoyment. The gallery welcomed entries from artists 18 and older, residing or working in the United States. Each artist could submit up to three works. Included in this event is the Miniature Artists of America exhibit of 35 pieces of juried works by 35 signature members. One of the goals of this organization is to encourage national awareness and understanding of fine art in miniature through this traveling exhibit. An award presentation will take place on Friday Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. An open reception will follow from 5:30-9 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The show is free to the public. Santa Claws is coming to town: To help kick off the holiday season, Petsmart, 1800 Evans Road, Melbourne, will host pet photos with Santa Claws on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring your pet and have their picture taken with old St. Nick Claws. All pets are welcome. Photos cost $9.95 each with your Petsmart PetPerks card (plus tax). Pet parents will receive a digital picture of their pet in a holiday collector frame. For each photo purchased $5 will go to benefit the Central Brevard Humane Society in Cocoa, to be used to care for the homeless and abused animals of Brevard.
