ST. LUCIE COUNTY -- Guided kayak tours are available at Savannas Preserve State Park for water sport enthusiasts, avid paddlers or nature lovers. Tours are available Friday and Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m.
The Friends of Savannas Preserve Kayak Committee guides the tours for a suggested $10 donation.
Kayak guides are trained in the ecology of the Savannas and have a diverse set of knowledge that they love to share with their groups.
In addition to the weekly tours, full-moon paddles and holiday trips are planned for this season.
Nighttime tours are also available. Participants will enjoy the moonlit waters and the nocturnal sounds of the Savannas. These tours meet at the canoe launch at 6 p.m. and the tours are from 7-9 p.m.
The trips are scheduled for Nov. 26 and Dec. 28. A full-moon paddle is a suggested $15 donation. These tours fill up quickly, so reserve a space today.
Holiday tour dates are Nov. 23, Dec. 26, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. These tours are also a suggested $15 donation and space should be reserved.
Reservations should be made by calling the education center at (772) 398-2779. (Kayak rentals, though, are not available.)
