INDIAN RIVER COUNTY -- A medical assistant program is scheduled to take place from Jan. 14-April 18. It is designed for students who wish to work as medical assistants. The course will cover anatomy, universal precaution, patient care skills, insurance billing, patient charting, phlebotomy, ECG and more. Students will attend class Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; students are then expected to complete reading and homework assignments outside of the classroom. Cost is $1,447. After successful completion of the program, students may choose to sit for the national certified clinical medical assistant exam through National Healthcareer Association for an additional cost.
A daytime certified nursing assistant course will meet from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Class will begin on Jan. 15 and run through March 19 and is held at the Gifford Medical Academy site. Cost is $894.
There will be a 75-hour, continuing education phlebotomy course for individuals who already working in the medical field in a hands-on position such as home health aide or certified nursing assistant. The course will be held Jan. 22 through April 11 and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $329.
The next medical coder/biller class will be offered in January. Class will be held Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. beginning Jan14 and running through June 1. This is a fast-paced class that will require much time and commitment. Cost is $1,779. All students who successfully pass the course and have a high school diploma are eligible to sit for AAPC's national coding exam and billing exam; the exams are not included in the cost of the course.
An ESOL program for non-native English speakers is offered at Adult Education from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. The class is also held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
In addition, citizenship classes are held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Freshmen Learning Center. The cost is $30 per term ($90 per year).
Adult Education will be conducting a one-day web page design class. The class will be held from 9a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. Cost is $33.
A one day Ebay workshop is from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Dec 1.
A one-day beginner digital camera class will be offered from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 8. Cost is $32.
A Windows 7, 16-hour class, is running from Nov 27 to Dec 20. Students will attend class on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $68.
