FORT PIERCE - On the afternoon of Nov. 7, a call came into the 911 dispatch from a man saying, "I shot my mom, I shot my mom."
Responding officers at the scene at the Manatee Mobile Home Park on U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce discovered a Hispanic female with a gunshot wound to the back of her head. She was pronounced dead at the scene. On a table within feet of her body was a .22 caliber rifle.
The dead woman was identified as Alejandrina Leija De Perez, 46, the mother of Samuel Perez, 26, who surrendered to police as soon as they arrived on the scene by walking outside the residence, placing his hands on his head and lowering himself to his knees.
According to police reports, Mr. Perez stated his parents had abused him his entire life. When he went to his mother to ask for money to pay bills, his mother started to insult him and pushed him out of the house.
The report said Mr. Perez then went and got the rifle he had purchased a few months ago, placed the gun to her head and fired.
A 2-year-old child sleeping in the home at the time was not injured.
Police interviewed Mr. Perez's sister and father, who both stated that Mr. Perez was addicted to drugs and was constantly asking family members for money.
The family members also stated there was never any abuse going on at the home.
Mr. Perez was charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bail at the St. Lucie County jail.
This is the second fatal shooting in the city this year.
