Council welcomes new leaders

Brevard's Take Stock in Children Leadership Council has announced the election of two new officers.

Ben Buchanan, a council member for 13 years, will assume the role of chairman. Mr. Buchanan is a vice president at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, with the Gear Buchanan Group, located in Melbourne.

Bill Zoby, who has served on the Council for seven years, is the new vice chairman. Mr. Zoby, a Melbourne resident, is a marketing and sales consultant for consumer products.

Take Stock in Children provides a unique opportunity for low-income, at-risk students in Brevard County to escape the cycle of poverty through education. The program offers students college scholarships, mentoring services and hope for a successful future.

Volunteer mentors meet with their students each week at school throughout the school year.

Case management firm has new guardian, manager and counselor

Engineer joins local firm

New board of directors' member hunger project

Stephanie Franklin was recently elected to The Children's Hunger Project board of directors.

As a member of the board of directors, Ms. Franklin will be involved in strategic planning, while advising and helping to direct fundraising activities and implementation of the organization's goals. These goals are summed up in the local charity's nine-word business plan: See a hungry kid. Buy food. Feed the kid.

Ms. Franklin brings her shared passion and expertise to help address the problem of young children coming to school hungry.

Ms. Franklin, director of membership for the Melbourne Regional Chamber of Commerce of East Central Florida, has been dedicated to helping the business community since moving to Brevard in 2004.

She is the co-chair on the Advisory Council for Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine, is a 2010 Lead Brevard graduate and has served as the co-treasure for the Women's Center Guild of South Brevard and a board member for Friends for Animals Sanctuary.

The Children's Hunger Project is a Brevard County 501 (c) (3) charity that provides packages of food for hungry children so that they can get basic nourishment each weekend during the school year.

To date, the program includes 14 elementary schools in Palm Bay, Melbourne, Rockledge, Cocoa, Satellite Beach and Indian Harbour Beach. Further expansion is planned in the near future.

Nutritious packages of food are discreetly slipped into the backpacks of children that teachers know are undernourished on the weekends.

Japanese firm to buy local company

The board of directors of DTx Inc. has announced that it has agreed to sell DTx to CONTEC Co. Ltd. of Osaka, Japan. The acquisition is expected to close on Dec. 31.

DTx provides embedded systems to leading manufacturers of medical devices, industrial automation and defense applications. CONTEC is a leading provider of industrial control technology, testing and communication electronics.

Sales professional earns designation

JoAnne Infurna of Prudential Sterling Properties has earned the Fine Homes InternationalSM Specialist professional designation, conferred by Prudential Real Estate and Relocation Services Inc., a Brookfield Residential Property Services company. 

Ms. Infurna received the designation for meeting the professional standards set by Prudential Real Estate for sales professionals who successfully list, market and transact sales of fine homes.

Prudential Real Estate defines a Fine Home as a residence valued within the top 10 percent of its respective marketplace that is in top show-quality condition.

To qualify for the designation, Prudential Real Estate requires that a sales professional must have listed at least two fine homes or closed one fine homes transaction during the past year; earn five personal elective points based on criteria set by Prudential Real Estate and Relocation Services; and meet standards for professional sales experience, including at least one year of full-time real estate sales.

Two join board of trustees

Jim Shaw, chairman of Health First's Board of Trustees, has announced that two additional members have joined the Health First's Board of Trustees: Donald Hagen, a medical educator and Retired United States Naval commander and surgeon general; and Bryan R. Roub, who previously served as chief financial officer of Harris Corporation.

New chief nursing officer hired

Health First has announced that Eddy (Ed) J. Hannah has joined the organization as the new chief nursing officer and vice president of Patient Care Services at Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hannah will replace Bonnie Rudolph, who is retiring as the system's chief nursing officer after 24 years with Health First.

Mr. Hannah will report to J. Stuart Mitchell, Health First executive vice president, chief operations officer.

Mr. Hannah will serve in a dual role: CNO of the Health First system and vice president of Patient Care Services for Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center.

Realtors hold inaugural course

Florida Realtors recently held its first 'military specialist' certification program at the Space Coast Realtors office at 105 McLeod St., Merritt Island.

Rusty Shattuck, sales associate at Homes In Brevard County Realty in Merritt Island and Viera, was the first Realtor to successfully complete all of the requirements to obtain the new Realtor designation of Florida Military Specialist.

He is qualified to work directly with active military personnel, retired military personnel and veterans, with all of their housing needs. He is a Vietnam veteran, as well as an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8191 in Eau Gallie.

New president at hired at medical center

Health First has announced that Sean J. Gregory has been named as the new president of Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.

Mr. Gregory will manage the strategy and business development for Health First's 514-bed tertiary hospital in Melbourne. He will also oversee revenue and growth planning, service line growth and development, capital budget, physician relations, and overall planning and strategy for the hospital.

He will work closely with Health First executive vice president and chief operations officer, J. Stuart Mitchell, and the hospital's operational team to ensure that the highest quality and safety is provided for all patient experiences and outcomes.
