BREVARD - In a rough economic time, Chris Hyskell was determined to be successful and raise a family.
"My wife got into real estate, not only because her parents did it, but because we had the quandary of what to do when you have a 2-and-a-half-year-old," Mr. Hyskell said from his home in Melbourne. "Do you send your kid to daycare, while you have the standard job, or do you stay at home and try and do the best you can? At the time, real estate was the best for both worlds."
After joining his wife, Christine Whelpley, at Abundant Home Realty, Mr. Hyskell learned all too well what a down economy can do.
"The agency started in 2004 with 13 employees," he said. "We currently have three employees."
Despite the economic turmoil experienced within the past few years, things eventually started to turn around for the company.
In addition to helping people find homes as a real estate agent, Mr. Hyskell decided to try his hand at another profession by opening his own company, Florida Beverage Delivery.
In his delivery business, Mr. Hyskell strives to offer more than 400 different beers from all around the world to vendors and other consumers at affordable prices.
"We have the biggest Budweiser market in Central Florida here in Brevard County," Mr. Hyskell said. "In juxtaposition, you have more than 400 beers in Brevard, but, at liquor stores, you see only 30 or 40 on the shelf."
Mr. Hyskell said that by ordering kegs through his company, a consumer can save as much as 50 percent on alcohol, saving hundreds of dollars each year. Customers may order their beer selections 24/7, either online or by phone.
Additionally, Florida Beverage Delivery sells and rents draft equipment, including kegerators, which are beer dispensers needed to operate the keg.
"We also offer free home or office delivery, as well as catering and large orders," Mr. Hyskell said. "Our motto is 'keep it local; keep it friendly.'"
