HOBE SOUND - Guests at Hobe Sound Animal Protection League's "Paws for a Cause" festival will have the opportunity to bid on an original Highwaymen painting at this year's silent auction.
The work, done in oil on masonite, was painted by Mary Ann Carroll, the only female member of the group of Florida artists known as The Highwaymen. Ms. Carroll was one of the original nine members of the group.
The value of Highwaymen paintings has soared over the years and the auction may provide a rare opportunity to purchase this original work at a bargain price.
The painting was donated by the law firm of Littman, Sherlock & Heims to help HSAPL raise money to cover operating costs for the sanctuary and to fund their spay/neuter and adoption programs.
HSAPL is a nonprofit, 501, no-kill feline rescue and adoption organization located in Palm City. The fundraiser is their signature event held annually at the sanctuary.
This year the festival will be held on Nov. 3 from noon-4 p.m.
In addition to the silent auction, there will be games, arts and crafts, music, a bounce house, a petting zoo and more.
A hot lunch is included in the admission price of $25, and children under age 12 are admitted free. Tickets to the VIP lounge are $100.
