INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - Youth and parents are invited to attend "Youth Taking Charge" on Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gifford Youth Activity Center, 4875 43rd Ave., Vero Beach.
This free event will provide attendees with educational opportunities to help them make positive choices during their lives.
"Giving our youth the tools they need to succeed and stay away from bad choices is what this event is about," said John May, outreach coordinator for Indian River County Health Department.
To encourage youth to participate in the events, sponsors are providing incentives that will be raffled off throughout the day, including a laptop, tablet, gift cards, flash drives and a scholarship to Gifford Youth Activity Center. Lunch will be provided, as well as live entertainment.
Topics and presenters are: An anti-bullying message, Shirley Rosemond, Indian River County Sheriff's Office.
Narcotics Overdose Prevention and Education address, Owen Messinger, Indian River County Sheriff's Office.
HIV awareness, John May, Indian River County Health Department.
