'Channel Cats' Drag Racing in the 1950s

The stage production of "'Channel Cats,' Drag Racing at Tico Airport in the '50s," is compiled by Roz Foster, from a journal written by Darrell Hardister.

It is about a group of teenagers, who made a difference in the community by forming a drag racing club in the 1950s, called The "Channel Cats" to promote safe driving.

They were sanctioned by Nascar and drag raced on the strip at Tico Airport in the 1950s.

It's all about the "love affair with their cars" that involved community participation and support.

It will include 1950s' music, vintage photos of racing cars and club members, as well as vintage film of the races.

"Channel Cats" members will participate on stage, including Darrell Hardister, Blackie Raulerson, Mike Ramer and Carl Jones.

Copies of the revised journal will be available for $20 at the theater with members of the "Channel Cats" present to sign them during intermission.

Proceeds will benefit the North Brevard Heritage Foundation and the Emma Parrish Theater.

The play is scheduled, so people coming into town for "Cracker Weekend" may attend.

The play will be at Emma Parrish Theater, Titusville, Saturday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m., and tickets will cost $15.

Tickets will be available for sale at the North Brevard Historical Museum, The Emma Parrish Theater, The Titusville Chamber of Commerce and The historic Pritchard House.
