Cemetery walk planned
The West Volusia Historical Society presents its 14th Oakdale Historic Cemetery Walk "Gravestone Conversations" from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27. All Tickets are $10.
Tours leave from the DeLand House/Conrad Center, 137 W. Michigan Ave., every 15 minutes.

Buddy Walk slated
The Buddy Walk and block party will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the DeLand Historic Courthouse.
Registration is $10.
Proceeds will benefit the Arc of Volusia's programs and services for adults with Down Syndrome and intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Garden Club to meet
The Garden Club of DeLand will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at 865 S. Alabama Ave.
Its monthly meeting will be hosted by the Morning Glory Circle,
and meet Master Gardener Karen Stauderman.
She will answer questions regarding Florida gardening problems.

Haunted trail walk planned
The Friends of DeLeon Spring State Park will hold a haunted trail from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.
Participants may walk the haunted trail and stop at treat stations along the way for tricks and treats.
This event is not too scary and is intended for the younger goblins.
Age 14 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Advanced tickets available, or can be purchased at the event. Ages 5 and younger are free. Ages 6 and older are $3. Cash only, no extra charge for vehicle entry.

The Duvall Home hosts fundraiser
The Duvall Home's annual fall fundraiser, known as the $10,000 draw down, will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Spring Garden Ranch, De Leon Springs.
There are several new happenings on tap for this year: A poker run featuring a stop at the Duvall Home's main campus, the Hemby Brothers Band will be rockin' the stage as the event culminates with VIP motorcycle parking, a classic car show, the traditional games of bingo and poker, a 50/50, food and drinks and the $10,000 draw down.
Tickets are available now and can be purchased in person at the Duvall Home or online at www.duvallhome.org. VIP and drawn down tickets must be purchased in advance and are $125 and $100 and include entry into the $10,000 Drawn down, food and two beverages.
Poker run and general admission tickets are $25 per person in advance or $30 at the event. All tickets include food at the event.
Proceeds from the event enable the Duvall Home to continue to fulfill its mission of providing the highest quality of care and greatest level of independence for 140 adults with developmental disabilities.
Pet Vet Cruiser scheduled
Volusia County's Pet Vet Cruiser offers low-cost spaying and neutering services to residents of unincorporated parts of the county and the cities of DeLand and South Daytona.
The Pet Vet Cruiser will be at Oakbrook Professional Center, 931 S. Spring Garden Ave., DeLand on Nov. 5, 8, 12, 19 and 27.
Fees are based on income. Appointments are required and may be made by calling (386) 626-6643.

DeLand library plans book sale Nov. 9 - 10
The Friends of the Library will have its monthly used-book sale from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9; and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in the DeLand Regional Library auditorium, 130 E. Howry Ave.
A pre-sale will be open for viewing at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, and buyers can purchase books at pre-sale prices from 2:30 to 7:15 p.m.
Hardbacks will be sold for $1 each, large paperbacks for 50 cents, and small paperbacks and magazines for 25 cents.

Hangar dance slated
A Tribute to the Big Bands will be the theme of the 21st annual Big Band Hangar Dance Nov. 9, the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum.
The dance will feature the Terry Myers Orchestra.
The city of DeLand started the dances in 1992, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1942 opening of the DeLand Naval Air Station at what is now the DeLand Airport and Industrial Park.
The DeLand Naval Air Station Museum has sponsored the dances since 1995, when the Museum at 910 Biscayne Blvd. opened.
In addition to the dance, the museum is sponsoring the 70th anniversary of the opening of the DeLand Naval Air Station. The event this year, on Nov. 17, celebrates the opening of Naval Air Station on Nov. 17, 1942.
Fall festival slated
The DeLand Fall Festival of the Arts 2012 event support campaign is in progress.
The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 and Sunday, Nov. 18 in downtown DeLand.
The festival is celebrating its 20th year and attracts more than 50,000 visitors each year during the two-day weekend event. The juried selection of international and national artist with their works will number between 165 to 185 after the selection process.
Approximately $25,000 in artist awards in different categories will be awarded by the event judges at the festival.
