BREVARD - In an effort to display "a continuum of care" offered to Brevard County seniors, the Wuesthoff Progressive Care Center will be hosting a senior fair on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 4-7 p.m.
"The fair is a great way to help people become aware of all of the different services that Wuesthoff offers," said Wendy Willis, community liaison for Wuesthoff Progressive Care Center. "Anyone can tour the facility at any time."
The fair will highlight the several services offered by the Wuesthoff Progressive Care Center, including having members of the rehabilitation department there to answer any questions that people may have.
Mrs. Willis said the fair will also highlight a pulmonary program, patients who have pneumonia or respiratory problems, and a cardiac program. Both programs are new, inpatient programs developed by the facility to help with re-hospitalization rates for seniors through step-by-step developments.
"Medicare reimbursement depends on the rate of re-hospitalization," Mrs. Willis said. "Quite often, in the elderly, pneumonia is a big issue, so decreasing re-hospitalization for these patients will help them."
Mrs. Willis said that plans for the patient's progression within one of the two new programs will vary, depending on the needs of the patient.
Mrs. Willis said there will also be a cooking demo, displaying food that the facility offers to its patients.
"We always try and tweak our menu to include seasonal fruits and vegetables to keep our food fresh," Mrs. Willis said. "Our chef will also do a healthy cooking demo."
Facility tours will also be provided for fair-goers.
An "Ask the Doctor" event will also be taking place, in which people may ask a doctor any medical question or describe symptoms they have been experiencing.
Gift baskets will also be distributed, as well as free beer and wine.
The Wuesthoff Progressive Care Center is a 114-bed nursing facility, which includes both a Transitional Care Unit and a Residential Care Unit.
According to the care center, the facility offers social events and recreational activities, designed to enhance the quality of life of patients and residents.
The Senior Fair takes place from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Wuesthoff Progressive Care Center, located at 8050 Spyglass Road in Viera.
