She is one of just 12 local leaders from across the country to be chosen for the honor this year.
Each Afterschool Ambassador will continue directing or supporting a local afterschool program while also serving the one-year Afterschool Ambassador term, organizing public events, communicating with policy makers and building support for afterschool programs.

Getting fit and healthy
A new program has been launched, aimed at increasing healthy lifestyles and physical fitness of Brevard students.
The launch coincided with International Walk to School Day and is a partnership between Commit 2B Fit, Brevard County Schools and Space Coast Transportation Planning.
The program is being funded through the Florida Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School grant.
The Commit 2B Fit School Program is a comprehensive educational program that teaches children the basics of sound nutrition and the importance of regular physical activity.
The program, which targets third- and fourth-graders will be implemented in 10 Brevard Schools each year for three years, thus reaching 30 schools before its culmination.
For more information, contact Rachel Winsten, resource teacher for physical education, health and driver's education at (321) 633-1000, Ext. 387, or by email at winsten.rachel@brevardschools.org.
Space Coast Area Transit sets ridership record
Preliminary ridership numbers for Space Coast Area Transit, Brevard's Public Transportation System, indicate more than two million passenger boardings occurred on its fixed-route buses for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30.
That represents a 12 percent increase in ridership over Fiscal Year 2011, and the 20th consecutive year of ridership gains. Fiscal Year 2012 productivity of 25.52 passengers per hour of service is also a record.
Both the State Road 520 and A1A corridors remain as the service areas with the most passenger boardings. The Palm Bay/Melbourne area shows the largest growth in the system, along with the most productive route in the County between U.S. Highway 192 and Palm Bay Road.
