Melbourne Civic Theatre's next production
"The Foreigner," a play by Larry Shue, will be presented at the Melbourne Civic Theatre, LeGallerie Plaza, 817 E. Strawbridge Ave., Melbourne, Friday, Oct. 12, through Sunday, Nov. 18, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Ticket Prices are $23 for seniors, military and students and $25 for adults.
The scene is a fishing lodge in rural Georgia often visited by "'Froggy' LeSeuer," a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base. This time "Froggy" has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy man named "Charlie," who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So "Froggy," before departing, tells all assembled that "Charlie" is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English. Once alone the fun really begins, as "Charlie" overhears more than he should - the evil plans of a sinister, two-faced minister and his redneck associate; the fact that the minister's pretty fiancee is pregnant; and many other damaging revelations made with the thought that Charlie doesn't understand a word being said. That he does fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play, and sets up the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the "bad guys" and the "good guys" emerge triumphant.
The show is directed by Peg Girard with a cast including Adrian Cahill as "Froggy," Chandler McRee as "Charlie," Nellie Brannan as "Betty," Amy Pastoor as "Catherine," Glen Krasny as "The Rev. David," Alfie Silva as "Ellard" and Steve Costner as "Owen."
Set design is by Caroline Osborne. Light design and technical direction is by Alan Selby. Sound design is by Wendy Reader. Costume design is by Alice Henning.

'Woman in Black' at the Henegar Center
This classic ghost play opens the Henegar Center 2012-13 season in the Downtown Melbourne theatre district.
On Friday, Oct. 12, the acclaimed British ghost drama, "The Woman In Black," opens the 20th Season at the Henegar Center for the Arts in the Historic Downtown Melbourne theatre district.
The play will run a total of nine performances throughout three weekends in October.
The Henegar production stars local actors Terrence Girard and David M. Robertson.
The play is being staged by guest director Donald Westwood, with sound design by Thom Restivo and lighting by Bryce Niehaus.
"The Woman In Black" features a multi-layered story set in the recent past, with mysterious forays to the 1960s and early 1900s.
Spine-chilling lighting and special effects draw the audience into the haunted world of the principal characters.
The play, written by Stephen Malastratt, is based on the novel by Susan Hill and has enjoyed a run of nearly 25 years in London, where it is still running, making it the second longest-running play in the history of the West End.
The Henegar Center is kicking off the season with a blood drive by Florida Blood Centers. Donate on the Big Red Bus and receive a free ticket to "The Woman In Black."
Keeping with the theme, the Strawbridge Art League is hosting its fall exhibit, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Upstairs @ the Henegar in the "Haunted Hallway."
"The Woman in Black" opens Oct. 12 and runs through Oct. 28 on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. at the Henegar Center for the Arts, 625 E. New Haven Ave., in the Downtown Melbourne Theatre District.

Auditions for 'Holidays with Dino'
Needed are five men and nine women who have the ability to sing, dance and act. Doing impressions of anyone in the time period (1960s) is a plus.
Please be prepared to dance (dress comfortably). The acting audition will consist of reading from a script.
For singing auditions please prepare 16 bars to minute of music (We will provide CD player).
Also needed are three to four attractive women who will portray the gold-diggers from the show (these ladies need to dance only).
"Holidays with Dino" is a nostalgic look back at the 1960s' "Dean Martin Show," with singing, dancing and skits.
Alfie Silva will be playing Dean Martin, and all actors will be guests of the iconic show.
This year there will be doing more skits and comedic routines from the show.
The event will be directed by Peg Girard, with musical direction by Alfie Silva and choreography by Alfie Silva and Holly McFarland.
The show will run will run for 12 performances (Dec. 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24).
Rehearsals will begin immediately (7 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Oct. 14 and 15) at the Melbourne Civic Theatre, LeGallerie Plaza, 817 E. Strawbridge Ave., Melbourne.

Adelines open house and free voice lessons
The Platinum Coast Chorus, under the new direction of certified director Lisa Lupo, is holding an October open house, including free voice lessons.
This three-week program, beginning Oct. 18, will include the basic fundamentals of four-part, a cappella, barbershop harmony, including exercises and techniques to improve breath support, posture, resonance, tone, expression and showmanship.
Three weekly sessions will be offered to potential women members ages 16 and older.
The sessions will be held during rehearsals on Thursdays, Oct. 18, 25 and Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the Veteran's Complex & Recreation Center, 2285 Minton Road, West Melbourne.
The Platinum Coast Chorus is the local chapter of Sweet Adelines International.
The chorus, a smaller ensemble or chapter quartets are available to perform for community and social events, such as luncheons, dinner parties, fundraisers, weddings and singing telegrams.

Fall Craft Fair
Historic Cocoa Village's 32nd Annual Fall Craft Fair will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21.
More than 150 artists and crafters are expected at this fall classic, which includes the film "Dolphin's Tale" Saturday evening in Riverfront Park.

Local artist featured in solo exhibition
In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Island Images' Gallery of Hope presents "In Search of the Real Cuba," a compelling exhibition featuring modern-day Cuba by photographic artist and author Dawn Currie, resident of Indian Harbour Beach.
The exhibit will run through Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Gallery of Hope, 2036 14th Avenue in the historic Theatre Plaza in downtown Vero Beach.

'Under the Harvest Moon' fundraiser at Rockledge Gardens
The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse will host a "Under the Harvest Moon" fundraiser, Sunday Oct. 28, at 5:30 p.m., at Rockledge Gardens, U.S. Highway 1, Rockledge.
The second fundraiser of its kind, held by the Cocoa Village Playhouse at Rockledge Gardens, the event will include gourmet food from Carrabba's Italian Grill of Merritt Island, with live entertainment by the Cocoa Village Playhouse performers.
Sponsorships are available at $300, $500 and $1,000, with individual tickets starting at $75 and additional discounts for Aladdin Society members.
Proceeds from the event will support the renovation of the playhouse, as well as the The Cocoa Village Playhouse STARS Youth Program.
