INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - The Dancing with Vero's Stars event is moving to a new location and on a new date for the 2013 social season.
Healthy Start and Riverside Theatre have entered into a partnership where the theater becomes the new venue for the annual dance event which moves to May 11, 2013, becoming the highlight of Mother's Day weekend for area residents.
"We couldn't be more pleased about our new location and our relationship with the management and staff of Riverside Theatre," said Rebecca Russell-Gootee, executive director of Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition.
"It is a win-win for both of our nonprofit organizations and a perfect fit for their end-of-season calendar," she said.
"Moving the date to coincide with Mother's Day weekend is most fitting to our mission, which promotes a system of care that optimizes/maximizes healthy outcomes for all pregnant women, infants, young children and their families."
"One of the missions of our theater is to work with children through performance and education, thus working with the Healthy Start Coalition aligns directly with our mission," said Jon Moses, Riverside Theatre's managing director.
"Additionally, the community enthusiasm for Dancing with Vero's Star's is the ideal upbeat event to close a season that we expect will be extraordinary."
The event, chaired by Cheryl Gerstner and Laura Guttridge, both star dancers in previous competitions, will once again offer an evening of tempting tangos, sizzling salsas and jiving jitterbugs, along with some new or unexpected twists and surprises.
It will be performed by 10 local stars matched with professional dance instructors. The event will also showcase the dancers during a red carpet arrival, a hit when introduced at the 2012 event. Other components of the evening will include a cocktail party and silent auction.
Star dancers, paired with their instructors, will train for 20 hours over several months and gather community votes in advance of the evening on the website, www.Dancingwithverostars.com (now under construction) and then later at the dance competition itself.
Each $1 raised will equate to a vote for the dancer. All dancers will be judged 50 percent on money raised for Healthy Start Coalition and 50 percent based on their dancing skills.
The official announcement of the 2013 star dancers paired with their professional dance instructors will be made at the end of October.
