Volusia County School Board Chairman Al Williams of Port Orange died Monday at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Basilica of St. Paul, 317 Mullally St., Daytona Beach.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy, and a son, Alan.
Dr. Williams earned his doctoral degree from Columbia University and worked in the schools systems in Chicago and Austin, Texas.
He was recently re-elected to his fifth term on the School Board. He served District 2, which covers the greater Daytona Beach area, Daytona Beach Shores, Ponce Inlet, South Daytona and a portion of Port Orange.
A special election will be needed to replace Williams. Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Ann McFall is consulting with the state Division of Elections on the matter.
RJ Gainous Funeral Home, Daytona Beach, is in charge of arrangements.
