PORT ST. LUCIE -
Homewood Suites by Hilton in Port St. Lucie's Tradition donated $8,000 toward Martin Health System's new Tradition Medical Center project.
The 90-bed hospital, located in west Port St. Lucie, will open in early 2014.
The money was raised during the inaugural Don Led Duke charity golf tournament, hosted by Homewood Suites and its parent companies, BBL Hospitality and Equinox Companies.
Funds were raised over the course of four days in April at PGA Village in St. Lucie West. The event was held to honor the late Donald Led Duke, owner and co-founder of the BBL family of companies, who died in September 2010.
Homewood Suites co-owners, Equinox Companies and BBL Hospitality, were instrumental in organizing the tournament and largely responsible for its success.
"We are pleased to support the Martin Health Foundation and the memory of Don Led Duke through our annual golf tournament," said Eric King, president of Equinox Companies.
"We look forward to many more successful partnerships with our neighbors."
The check was presented to Mark Robitaille, president and CEO of Martin Health System, by BBL Hospitality's corporate director of sales, Carrie Hillenbrandt, Homewood Suites director of sales, Catherine Matos and Homewood Suites general manager, Laura Thomas.
Martin Health System is a nonprofit, community-based health care organization that has served the region for more than 70 years.
