Port St. Lucie City Councilman Jack Kelly was honored with a certificate of appreciation from the Democratic Club of St. Lucie County in recognition of his exemplary service during his 12 years of membership, representing District 4 on the city council.
Mr. Kelly received the certificate at the club's annual picnic on Sep. 8 at the Council on Aging.
Ken Mascara, St. Lucie County sheriff, made the presentation, sharing remembrances from his long working association with Councilman Kelly.
Mr. Kelly did not to run for re-election. He will serve his last day with the city council on Oct. 22.
Also being recognized for his public commitment was Bob Davis, tax collector for St. Lucie County.
Katherine Hensley, St. Lucie County school board chairwoman, presented a certificate to Mr. Davis, citing his integrity and dependability in carrying out his duties, and his continuing work in the community.
Mr. Davis will retire at the end of his current term.
Mr. Davis spoke briefly to encourage those considering public service, citing the personal gratification that such service can provide to those willing to face the challenges.
