TREASURE COAST - PD-go! Web Solutions of Vero Beach has launched its first custom iPhone app for its client, Skate Solutions.
The app, called SK8 and pronounced "skate," will provide users with the ability to find roller-skating and ice-skating rinks nationwide based on current location (using GPS technology) or using a location that is entered by the user.
The rinks are displayed as a thumbtack on an integrated Google map. Each rink displays its contact information, hours of operation, weekly calendar, special events and more.
The app was originally populated with nationwide rink data that was collected using data mining.Rink owners are encouraged to add or claim their rink listings online at www.sk8app.com and update their information as necessary. That updated information will then display within the SK8 app.
"This first app has certainly been a learning experience, and we now have a great team in place for future projects," said Steve Schwartz, owner of PD-go! "We also have some new and exciting announcements coming in the very near future with regard to iPhone apps and mobile website solutions, so stay tuned."
Kevin Carroll and Tim Hunter, who also own the roller skating rink Skate Factory in Vero Beach, contracted with PD-go! Web Solutions to create the SK8 app.
"We wanted to provide a user-friendly tool on the iPhone for people to find skating rinks where they are located, or areas where they planned to travel. This app will provide that useful service, and bring more customers to the rink owners across the country. Everyone wins," said Mr. Carroll.
The SK8 APP is available for free by clicking the gray "App store" button found at the top right corner of www.sk8app.com.
