MARTIN COUNTY - Pet owners can pre-register their dogs for the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast's 10th annual Mutt March, presented by the Petco Foundation, on Sept. 20 at Carson's Tavern, 2883 S.E. Ocean Blvd., Stuart, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Adult pre-registration is $10 and includes one drink, appetizers and music by T-Rex Entertainment.
Children 15 and under are free and will receive a limited-edition T-shirt and a coupon book to local participating businesses.
Mutt March raffle tickets for the winner's choice of a $1,000 Publix or $1,000 Visa gift card also will be on sale during the event and online at www.hstc1.org.
This year's Mutt March will be held Oct. 27 at Memorial Park, 100 S.E. Ocean Blvd., in Stuart.
Each year, hundreds of people and their creatively costumed dogs participate in this event, which has become one of the HSTC's most popular fundraising events.
The fun will kick off at 9 a.m. with registration and a free pancake breakfast from IHOP and will continue with a short walk around the city's new park.
Activities for the day include a canine costume contest, the flea-less vendor market, a dog race that will entitle the winner to "bragging rights" at the annual mutt derby hosted by the Fur Seasons Resort for Pets. There's also a chance for pets to run a lure course sponsored by Rabbit Run.
Participants can also have photos taken at the HSTC photo booth by JC Penney life touch portraits and there will be face painting, pumpkin decorating, adoptions and more.
Pre-registration and donations may also be made online at www.firstgiving.com/hstc1.
People also can build and create their own fundraising page in a few easy steps, then tell their friends and families to log on and support their efforts.
While the HSTC's animals greatly benefit from this event, business sponsors benefit as well, whether they sponsor with dollars or encourage their employees to walk as a team and raise funds for the animals.
