Painting classes offered at Riverwalk Nature Center
Certified instructor Barry Traxler will offer Bob Ross painting classes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Riverwalk Nature Center, located at Riverwalk: A Family Park, 5355 U.S. Highway 1, Rockledge.
The late Bob Ross was host of the public television series "The Joy of Painting," which ran from 1983 to 1995 and still appears in reruns in many broadcast areas.
During each half-hour segment, Mr. Ross would instruct viewers in the art of oil painting using a quick-study oil painting technique that kept colors to a minimum and broke paintings down into simple steps that anyone could follow.
The cost for the class is $50 and includes all materials. The Bob Ross wet-on-wet technique allows students to leave every class with a complete, ready-to-frame painting.
Seating is limited. Contact Riverwalk Nature Center at (321) 433-4490 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve space.
'Long Ago in a Place Called Vietnam'
The King Center for the Performing Arts has a new exhibit in its Harris Corporation Art Gallery.
Award-winning photographer James Lowell will be showcasing his collection of black-and-white photography in the Harris Gallery of the King Center for the Performing Arts.
This exhibit, "Long Ago in a Place Called Vietnam" shows some of the faces of those who went about their daily lives in a war zone in 1965-66.
Second Lt. James Lowell was 22 when he was assigned as leader of an Army photographic team, based out of what was then called the city of Saigon.
When off duty, he and his camera captured the faces of a changing world, the images of those people who were involved in their day-to-day activities in the streets, market places and military installations in and near this rapidly transforming city.
The exhibit will run through Oct. 1 and can be viewed by ticketed patrons attending King Center main stage performances.
The King Center is at 3865 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne.
For more information, call James Lowell at (904) 519-9430.
