PORT ST. LUCIE - A Port St. Lucie couple may have stopped a burglary of their residence, according to police reports.
The couple told police as they were leaving their residence they saw a man rush up to their doorway, the report said.
When they rushed home, the man threatened to shoot the wife, they told police.
Stephen Gunner Kowalewski, 38, of 513 S.W. Lucero Drive, Port St. Lucie, the man the couple confronted, was arrested later and charged with attempted burglary and introduction of contraband into a jail.
The scenario leading to the arrest began when the couple saw Mr. Kowalewski pacing in front of their driveway talking to someone on a cell phone as they left their residence, an incident report said.
As they were leaving, they saw Mr. Kowalewski "race" up to the front door and they returned, they told police.
When they confronted, Mr. Kowalewski, he "stated he was looking for a female by the name of 'Crysty,'" who lived at their residence, they old police.
"The victims told Stephen that there was no one by that name that lives there and asked him to leave the property," the report said.
"The victims stated Stephen informed them that he had a gun and he would use it on Jennifer."
The report said the victims called 911.
Two older children in the house told police someone tried to force open the door by forcefully jiggling the door handle, the report said.
Mr. Kowalewski gave conflicting stories about what he was doing in the neighborhood, the report said.
After police transported Mr. Kowalewski to jail, they discovered he had concealed 10 alprazolam (Xanax) pills, the report said.
However, they found no weapon.
