VERO BEACH - McKee Gardens is preparing for its third annual showcase of "Scarecrows in the Garden," which will run Oct. 19 - 31.
The garden is currently accepting submissions from families, school groups and organizations who would like to see their creations featured in the display.
"Our 'Scarecrows' display has become a favorite annual event that both the creators and visitors really look forward to," said Christine Hobart, McKee executive director.
"From school-age children to seniors, it's an activity that all ages can enjoy. It's also an inexpensive way for local businesses to promote themselves while supporting the Garden."
Scarecrow submissions are free for schools, nonprofit organizations and families whose scarecrows are freestanding, with the option to purchase a support stake from McKee for $10. Submission is $25 for commercial entries and includes a stake.
Entries will be marked with a sign identifying the name of the scarecrow and its creator for the duration of the exhibit. During that time, visitors will be able to cast their vote for their favorite scarecrow.
Voting will end at noon on Oct. 31 and the winning scarecrow will be revealed at the garden's annual "Trick-or-Treat at McKee BOOtanical Garden" event later that evening. Participants also will receive two free guest passes to the Garden valid Oct. 19 - Nov. 19.
The event is sponsored by the "AT&T Real Yellow Pages."
