Doll-making comes alive at Art & Antique Studio & Gallery

Space Coast Doll Artists brings to Art and Antique Studio during September a show of creativity and style in the art of doll making.

This evolving soft sculpture doll club began in 2005, with doll maker, Dolores Cox.

The group changed its focus from primarily a hobby of making cloth dolls, to an art doll group challenging each other to make more dolls inspired by great artists' works.

They have outgrown three locations to accommodate the sewing machines, classroom space and materials to further the doll making.

The club now meets every fourth Thursday of the month (except December) at the West Melbourne Library.

At the monthly meetings, there is usually a short mini-lesson on perspective, color, focus, design, etc.

There is a challenge every three months, and usually one of the members teaches a new project, method or new material. The club brings in nationally-recognized instructors for two-day workshops.

The club has displayed works at local libraries and quilt shows throughout Melbourne.

The club welcomes beginners to advanced members with all pitching in to help and guide one another.

The fee is $20 per year, and members in good standing receive discounted prices on classes.

The Art & Antique Studio & Gallery is at 1419 Highland Ave., Melbourne.

For more information, call (321) 253-5553.
