TREASURE COAST -
After a busy summer of practice and swim meets, the YMCA of the Treasure Coast's Wahoos swim team competed in a championship swim meet and took first place.
The Wahoos are part of the South Florida Recreational Swim League and have been competing throughout South Florida since 1994.
This is their fourth year straight of winning the division title as a team, in addition to five years of first in girl's high point with a few other bronze and silvers mixed in the boy's category.
"The team is really focused on giving all kids the opportunity to compete and be part of a team, and it takes the entire team to win gold," said Itzou Shamli, Wahoos head coach.
The YMCA of the Treasure Coast Wahoos swim team is a year-round program with three competitive seasons each year.
The year-round program gives the opportunity for 30 to 40 swimmers each season to swim for a goal whether a personal goal or a team goal. Each season consists of daily practices, monthly meets and a seasonal championship meet.
