Cinematique of Daytona, Volusia County's only dedicated art house cinema, is celebrating 20 years.
Beginning in 1991, the film society has been dedicated to screening independent, foreign and art house films that otherwise would not be shown locally. Cinematique has had several re-locations and growing pains throughout the years.
Thanks to the support of the community and Film Society members, in November 2010, a permanent home, the Cinematique Theater, was open at 242 S. Beach St. in Downtown Daytona Beach.
To celebrate the occasion, an open house is planned for 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31. The Daytona Beach Regional Chamber will make the milestone official with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Immediately following, the theater doors will be open to show some of the upgrades that were made possible through the donations of many local businesses and individuals during a recent fundraiser.
Admission is free and will include samples of the new café menu and a video presentation of coming attractions. Door prizes and information about the 10th annual Daytona Beach Film Festival will also be available. A beer and wine cash bar will be open featuring new additions to the bar menu.
Reservations are not required; seating is limited.
