MARTIN COUNTY -
Registration is now open for Martin County's Citizens Academy and Resource Education Series.
The next class begins on Sept. 27. Citizens must register in advance to participate. The series offers residents an inside look into county government operations.
The program aims to increase citizens' awareness and understanding of the variety of services offered by county government.
Citizens who wish to familiarize themselves with the function and purpose of their local government are encouraged to register for Martin County CARES. There is no charge to participate.
In a series of weekly sessions held over a six- week period, citizens will hear presentations from all departments under the board of county commissioners and the county's constitutional officers, including the sheriff and tax collector.
A visit to several county schools and a presentation by the Children's Services Council are highlights. Field trips are arranged to county facilities, so plan to spend some time at the jail and emergency operations center.
