STUART - All systems are go for the first attempt to cross from Florida to the Bahamas in a kayak.
The Stuart-based Blue Marlin Cove Fishing Team and Blue Marlin Cove Resort, West End, Bahamas, have joined the history making event by providing safety boat assistance and destination lodging.
Kyle Jackson, the 21-year- old Port St. Lucie Navy veteran who is going to attempt to become the first person to paddle from Florida to the Bahamas, welcomed the new team members and said the crossing attempt may take place within days, depending on the weather and seas.
"It's really great to have Blue Marlin Cove and the Blue Marlin Cove Fishing Team as part of our team effort," said Mr. Jackson.
"Two previous attempts to put the crossing in motion were shut down due to problems with our support boat. Now, I'm just looking for that weather window of opportunity and we are going to make this happen."
The Blue Marlin Cove Fishing Team plans to trailer their custom outfitted 32-foot Deal Maker from Jensen Beach to Miami to allow Mr. Jackson to create the ocean trajectory he needs to successfully use the currents of the Gulf Stream to aid in his crossing.
Blue Marlin Cove, a world-class fishing destination and popular Bahamian resort will provide Mr. Jackson with a complimentary stay allowing him to recuperate.
The Blue Marlin Cove Fishing Team will transport Mr. Jackson and his California Cobra kayak back to the Florida mainland as part of their team effort.
