Cuba unveiled in two books
Dawn Currie is proud to announce the release of two new books: "In Search of the Real Cuba: A Journey from East to West; From Ignorance to Insight" and "Faces of Cuba."
These books provide a glimpse of life in Cuba, where time stands still, yet takes its toll.
They are the fruits of a physically and mentally challenging two-week trek by the author / photographer that spans the island of Cuba from east to west.
Ms. Currie brought school and clinic supplies to impoverished areas and left enriched with memories to last a lifetime.
"In Search of the Real Cuba" includes more than 300 photos that will stir the mind and stories that touch the soul.
"Faces of Cuba" includes images of the resilient, creative, and generous Cuban people, where they work and live.
These works were made possible, in part, from the patrons who purchased her photographs during the solo exhibition and art sale at the Viera Government Center. The books are available online at blurb.com.
She is preparing for a solo exhibition at the Gallery of Hope in Vero Beach, that opens Oct. 3. Her images can also be viewed and purchased at curried.smugmug.com.

Auditions for upcoming production of 'Foreigner'
The Melbourne Civic Theatre, LeGallerie Plaza, 817 E. Strawbridge Ave., Melbourne, is conducting auditions for "Foreigner" by Larry Shue.
Needed are five men and two women. Age range is 20-60 years of age.
Accents needed are British and Southern.
The scene is a fishing lodge in rural Georgia, often visited by "'Froggy' LeSeuer," a British demolition expert, who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base.
This time "Froggy" has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named "Charlie," who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So "Froggy," before departing, tells all assembled that "Charlie" is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English.
Once alone, the fun really begins, as "Charlie" overhears more than he should - the evil plans of a sinister, two-faced minister and his redneck associate; the fact that the minister's pretty fiancée is pregnant; and many other damaging revelations made with the thought that "Charlie" doesn't understand a word being said. That he does fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play and sets up the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the "bad guys," and the "good guys" emerge triumphant.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the play.
The event will be directed by Peg Girard. The show will run six weeks from Oct. 12 through Nov. 18.
Rehearsals will begin immediately.
For more information, call (321) 723-6935.
