Diner open for back to school bash
Mel's Diner will be open for a special back-to-school dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at 4649 Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 608, Port Orange.
The full menu will be available. There will be dinner specials, dessert beer and wine.
The diner's regular hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

Library program to focus on fishing and hunting
Tyler West, a member of the United Waterfowlers of Florida, will discuss regulations and the best locations for fishing and hunting during a free program at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle.
Topics will include the licensing process, different regulations pertaining to saltwater and freshwater fish, hunting seasons, and the best places to look for prize catches and game. Mr. West also will explain how fishing and hunting helps to promote conservation of wildlife resources.

Share your books with the 'friends'
The Friends of the Port Orange Regional Library is in need of donations.
Anyone with used books, puzzles, movies and CDs may bring them to the circulation desk at the Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle.
The friends will place them in the next sale and use the funds to present future library programs.
The library is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Medicare 101 classes planned
Medicare 101 classes will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesdays and 10 a.m. Thursdays in the Clark Office Building located at 5111 S. Ridgewood Ave., Suite 200, Port Orange.
Participants will learn the essential information of Medicare and how to select a Medicare Plan.
This course presents attributes related to the Advantage plan and Medicare part D plan. We will review the four parts of Medicare, Part B, Part C and Part D.
This is an ideal course for those reaching the age of 65, retiring and/or moving into the area.
There is no cost for these classes. There will be no Medicare insurance products offered or sold during the classes.

Deadline approaching for livestock show
Youths planning to show livestock during the Nov. 1- 11 Volusia County Fair & Youth Show are reminded to register their livestock at the Fairgrounds by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.
Entry forms must have an attached bill of sale, a notarized waiver and a livestock-owner certificate. Incomplete and late entry forms will not be accepted; photocopying is not available at the Fair office and all documents should be completed in advance.

Caregiver support group planned
The Council on Aging of Volusia County will hold a caregiver support group at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Grace Episcopal Church, 4110 Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange.
Respite care is provided at all Council on Aging support groups for those in the early to mid-stage of dementia.
