ST. LUCIE COUNTY - The Port St. Lucie Civic Center will be the destination for fitness buffs on Aug. 26, as two separate fitness competitions will take place there that day.
The first event is the Treasure Coast Classic Bodybuilding competition. Since this event is sanctioned by the National Physique Committee as a NPC Level IV show, it is open to all residents in Florida interested in participating.
According to Matt Levine, Port St. Lucie Civic Center fitness leader, expect to see some local faces during the competition.
"We have about 30 Treasure Coast residents signed up to compete so far," Mr. Levine said.
The same time that is going on, the civic center is holding the Treasure Coast Classic figure and bikini competition.
There is a difference between the bodybuilding and figure competitions.
The men's figure competition is broken down by weight, while the women's figure competition is broken down by height. The men also do posing routines, while the women do quarter turns.
There will be prejudging for the bodybuilding competition in the morning beginning at 10 a.m., with registration and weigh-in beginning at 8 a.m.
There, posing routines are done for the judges without music.
The finals will begin at 6 p.m. That's when the male bodybuilders perform their routines to music.
Registration to compete in the event is $45, and interested participants can come the morning of the event to sign up.
According to Mr. Levine, it's not too late to sign up to compete.
"We are taking walk-ins now and on the day of competition," he said.
In addition, fitness vendors from all over the state, as well as local business vendors, will be attending and participating in free giveaways.
For those who want to see the bodybuilding competition in person, spectator admission is $15 for the 10 a.m. prejudging and $30 for the 6 p.m. evening show. Admission for those who wish to watch all the activities is $40. Parking is free for all events.
