ST. LUCIE COUNTY -
Residents have access to a new Park & Ride lot located at the county administration complex, at 2300 Virginia Ave.
The purpose is to encourage and support residents to carpool and share rides with others, rather than using multiple vehicles.
Residents can leave their vehicles in the available spaces and then ride together when commuting to work, shopping or events.
The newly designated 34-space parking lot is situated immediately adjacent to the west entrance of the county parking area.
Signs in the lot indicate the location of the designated spaces and roadway signs guide commuters to the Park & Ride section. The signs were constructed and installed with funding from the Florida Department of Transportation and support provided by the St. Lucie Transportation Planning Organization.
Residents without transportation can easily access this central location, which is within close walking distance of many residential areas.
Carpooling reduces the stress of driving, wear and tear on vehicles and cuts down on vehicle pollution.
"Projects like this Park & Ride offer residents options that can save them money and gas," said Corine Williams, St. Lucie County transit coordinator.
"We encourage commuters to partner and use this new site to make their lives easier."
