Courtney Bushman, left, and Brianna Parker, 5, both of Port Orange pet an alpaca during National Night Out at City Center in Port Orange last Tuesday. The animals came from the Chantilly Ridge Alpacas in Port Orange. The National Night Out event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness while generating support for local anticrime programs. It also strengthens the neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and also sends a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
