Florida Highwaymen paintings featured at museum art show

Art show enthusiasts will enjoy Florida Highwaymen paintings and more at the Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science Saturday, Aug. 18 from 6-8 p.m.

The event will also feature the works of local Florida artists and special appearances from some of the original Highwaymen artists.

During the 1950s to 1980s, the "Florida Highwaymen," a group of 26 African-American artists, embarked on a journey to paint and sell brightly-colored illustrations of the natural Florida landscape.

The Highwaymen often traveled on weekends and out of state to sell their art work.

Cost is $25 and will be available for purchase at the door. Light refreshments will be served.

The Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science is a not-for-profit organization located in Cocoa.
