MELBOURNE - Healthy living isn't a trend. It's a lifestyle.
In an effort to spread this awareness around the county, Richard Hendry, operations manager of Nature's Market in Melbourne, has created the Brevard Healthy Living Initiative.
The initiative aims to bring together area businesses, healthcare professionals and fitness experts to educate and reach as many people as possible, as well as provide free and discounted goods and services that will encourage healthier lifestyles, Mr. Hendry said.
Brevard Healthy Living Initiative's debut will be in the form of Brevard's largest weight-loss contest, "I'm Losing it 2012," which will run from July 28 to Dec. 15. Maximum Fitness Club, Nature's Market Health Foods, Andretti Thrill Park, Hometown News and many other Brevard businesses are teaming up to put on the free event, which has proven to be a success for the past two years.
The contest kicks off with a "fun walk" from Andretti Thrill Park, 3960 S. Babcock St., to Maximum Fitness Club, 4850 Stack Blvd., where the contestants will complete their first weigh-in. Participants will receive their first exercise class free, as well as discount cards and monthly prizes. Whoever loses the most by Dec. 15 will be the grand-prize winner.
