Dr. Richard Koenig of Merritt Island has chosen and trained to perform the Scandinavian Total Ankle Replacement, which is the only Food and Drug Administration-approved ankle replacement with three components, and is the only joint replacement FDA-approved for non-cemented application.
Thanks to advances in the instrumentation, surgery is very precise and reproducible. The surgery takes a little more than 2 1/2 hours to perform, followed by a short hospital stay and six weeks in a cast.
Dr. Koenig is the inventor of the Total Toe System and has had 27 years of experience using joint implants.
For more information, Dr. Koenig can be reached at his office on Merritt Island at (321) 452-5133.
