Three compete to be the next mayor of Titusville

TITUSVILLE - Two Titusville residents have qualified to challenge current Titusville Mayor Jim Tulley in the upcoming election.

Challengers Don Human and Sarah Stoeckel will appear alongside current Mayor Tulley on the August ballot in the Primaries. The position of mayor is Seat 4 on the City Council.

Basic information about the candidates is as follows:

Don Human

. Age: 48

. City: Titusville

. Years as resident: 48

. Occupation: owner of Titusville Construction and Ti-Con Roofing

. Education: Bachelor of Science in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach; Executive Master of Business Administration from Rollins College in Winter Park

. Organizations affiliated with: Masonic Lodge No. 384

. Marital status: married to wife, Kathryn Kelley-Human

. Number of children: three

. In 100 words, explain what makes you the best candidate for Mayor of Titusville: "Being from Titusville and running two companies here, I have a great interest in the future of the city and the stability of our economy. I worry about the quality of service declining in Titusville if things continue as is. I want to bring new business to Titusville for the economic stability of the city and the generation of new jobs. I have the experience in running businesses in Titusville. I understand how difficult it is to start a business in a town that is known to be 'business unfriendly.' I look to change that and become the city that welcomes business and proper growth."

Sarah Stoeckel

. Years as resident: 22

. Occupation: director of student activities and adjunct instructor at Brevard Community College

. Education: master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Central Florida in Orlando; bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Central Florida's Cocoa campus; currently pursuing doctorate in public affairs and public administration from the University of Central Florida in Orlando

. Organizations affiliated with: Greater Titusville Renaissance, Chamber of Commerce, Park Avenue Baptist Church

. Marital status: single

. In 100 words, explain what makes you the best candidate for Mayor of Titusville: "I know I would be the best candidate for mayor because of my integrity and moral code. I care about our citizens and believe it is my duty to serve, with my driving force for running being to make a better community for our residents. My ethical values and character, coupled with my combined education and vision allow me to shine and stand out among others. With the ability to balance a respect for the past with the proper vision for the future, I know that I would make 'A Brighter Future for Titusville.'"

Jim Tulley

. Age: 64

. City: Titusville

. Years as resident: 27

. Occupation: current Mayor of Titusville

. Education: Bachelor of Science in mathematics from United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; Master of Engineering in industrial engineering from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas; and Master of Science in computer science from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne

. In 100 words, explain what makes you the best candidate for mayor of Titusville: "Because of my seven-plus years on City Council, with three as mayor, I am the only candidate with a clear understanding of the time and energy it takes to be a successful mayor. I've learned that the mayor's most important job is to build bridges - to our citizens, between constituencies - as well as to people and organizations outside of Titusville. My breadth and depth of civic experience is unequaled, and I have a clear vision that includes protecting our natural treasures, promoting entrepreneurship, creating a destination for families and businesses, while optimistically focusing on the future."

To decide on the next mayor of Titusville, voters may head to the polls in the Primary Elections on Aug. 14.

If no candidate receives a majority of the votes, then the two candidates with the most votes from the Aug. 14 election will be on the Nov. 6 ballot for the General Election.
