Zumba lovers unite to observe National Dance Day

BREVARD - So you think you can get your dance moves on TV?
Owner Hali Panzak and her fellow instructors at Come On Get Happy Zumba Fitness studio in Historic Cocoa Village think they can, which is why they are reaching out to local Zumba enthusiasts to perform a dance routine on Saturday, July 28, which is National Dance Day. They hope the routine will be televised on the hit FOX dance competition show, "So You Think You Can Dance."
Implemented in 2010 by the executive director behind the TV show, National Dance Day promotes healthy lifestyles by encouraging the nation to move, according to www.fox.com/dance. Each year, people around the country have learned choreographed routines released by "So You Think You Can Dance" and have submitted videos of their performances in hopes that their moves will be aired on the show.
Previously, the routines have been too difficult and not Zumba specific, so Ms. Panzak has yet to attempt her Latin-inspired dance style on TV.
"This is the first year they asked Zumba Fitness to create a dance routine," Ms. Panzak said. "I knew I wanted to spearhead a local campaign to get everyone to learn it and perform it on July 28, the third annual National Dance Day."
In order to get the Space Coast involved, Ms. Panzak said local dance lovers should learn the routine, then join the Come On Get Happy crew at the grassy area in front of the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame, 6225 Vectorspace Blvd., in Titusville at 3 p.m.
"Everyone and anyone can learn the routine by viewing the online videos or attending a Zumba class, hopefully anywhere in Brevard," Ms. Panzak said. "I cannot speak for all Zumba instructors, but we will be teaching them seven days a week at Come On Get Happy."
"I showed the moves to our Zumba class for seniors, and they learned it very quickly," she said. "Anyone can do it."
She said Brevard's response to Zumba throughout the years has been amazing, as hundreds of people attend classes at the studio and Zumba events throughout the county.
"People are enjoying exercise for the first time in years," she said. "Dancing fills your heart with joy, plus it is the best form of cardio activity. It is time to show the nation that the Space Coast loves to Zumba."
Come On Get Happy is at 217 King Street in Historic Cocoa Village.
