A church in each of the five Volusia County Council districts will host a debate featuring County Council candidates and candidates for County Council chairman.
Each debate will be followed by a meet and greet.
Five district seats and the chairman seat are up for election this year. There will be many new candidates entering the political scene, many of whom are not well known in the community.
Five separate County Council debates are scheduled, one in each district, so voters can get acquainted with the newcomers, and to compare and contrast all the candidates running in that district. Candidates vying for the chairman's seat have been invited to participate in all five debates.
Lively debates among the candidates on local issues are anticipated.
Some venues will be serving refreshments during the meet and greet following the debate.
Standard debate forum will be employed, with moderator and timekeeper. Questions will come from the moderator, the press, area political clubs, and the candidates themselves.
Cindy Todd of Pierson, organizer of the debates, said, "The public is invited to attend the debates, and those who arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the debate will be given the opportunity to submit a question of their own."
The public is welcome.
