Auditions for 'The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940'

A team responsible for a recent Broadway flop, in which three chorus girls were murdered by the mysterious "Stage Door Slasher," gets together for an audition for their new show at a Westchester estate.

When the infamous "Slasher" appears and strikes again, bodies start to drop in plain sight.

The mystery is solved in the nick of time, but not before the audience has been treated to a sidesplitting good time and a generous serving of the author's biting, satiric and refreshingly irreverent wit.

Auditions for "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940" will be at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, July 9-10, at the Surfside Playhouse, 301 Ramp Road, Cocoa Beach.

Play dates will be Sept. 14-30, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

'ArtRocks' at Melbourne Beach

The recently held "ArtRocks" Melbourne Beach event, organized by local art groups, was a "gem" of a show.

Several talented artists transformed plain white rocking chairs into extraordinary works of art.

Among them, Susan Dieterle, resident of Melbourne Beach and show organizer, created a rocking chair that literally "ruled."

She skillfully covered the rocking chair with wooden rulers, creating a masterpiece out of simple objects.

Furniture artist Barbara Proctor gave her rocking chair a playful and colorful design using acrylic paints in her signature style.

Diana Beacham gave her chair a whimsical floral motif, while photographer and artist Robert Stein, using a mixture of both photography and painting, wrapped his chair with the image of a majestic oak tree.

In addition to the rocking chairs, 30 local artists attended the event, showing and selling their work. Many of these artists provided items for an affordable art auction.

Nestled among the art were hand-dipped chocolate treats for guests to enjoy.
