ORMOND BEACH -- "Broadway and Hollywood Revisited" will be the theme when Jim Miller's Big Band America performs at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center, 399 N. U.S. Highway 1, Ormond Beach.
The band is based in Ormond Beach and is conducted by renowned lead trombonist and band leader, Jim Miller.
Mr. Miller has a storied career as a professional musician, as well as being a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Navy. During his professional career as a musician, he has played for six U.S. Presidents and has performed at Carnegie Hall.
For more than a decade, he was conductor and band leader of the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, one of the best-selling and most highly regarded big band jazz orchestras of all time. Under his leadership, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra performed throughout the world and was featured on television programs including "The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson.
The July 7 concert will include music from American composer Henry Mancini, best known for writing the musical themes for many popular Hollywood movies, notably "The Glenn Miller Story." Also included in the program are selections from Leonard Bernstein's score of the beloved Broadway Musical "West Side Story."
