The Early Act Club of Blue Lake Elementary School, sponsored and assisted by the Rotary Club of DeLand, had a very productive year. Their 48 members met after school twice per month to work on service projects, learn how to conduct a meeting, and become leaders. Their project to benefit their school was a traffic safety video they produced to show in the morning announcements. Because so many children in Volusia County had been hit by cars this year, they wanted to demonstrate to Blue Lake students how to be safe while walking or riding bicycles to school. For their international project, they collected 121 pairs of shoes for Soles4Souls, an organization that sends shoes to third-world countries where they are needed.
