2012 film festival winners announced

PORT ORANGE - Port Orange Government TV (pogTV) has announced the winners of its 5th annual Film Festival.

The first place winner in the High School Film Group was "The Last Dance," by University High School filmmakers Caroline Gill, Wes Ellis, Kayleigh Slappey, Tony Sanden and Gabby Brookes. The film takes a look at teenage driving and drinking.

Second place in the High School Film Group went to Zachary Parker, Maxwell Droznin, Chris Veilleux, Eli Lavarias, Donald Hughes, and David Green from Spruce Creek High School. Their stop action film, "Furniture Wars," takes a fun perspective on tribes of chairs.

First place winner in the College Film Group was "What Comes Around," by Craig Calamis from the University of Central Florida. Mr. Calamis is a three-time winner of the College Film Group. Second place in the College Film Group went to "The Video" by filmmaker Casey Otten from Daytona State College.

The first place winner received $150 and the second place winner received $50.

"The Last Dance" and "What Comes Around" competed online for the Overall pogTV Film Festival Award and an additional $50. The winner was "The Last Dance."

Judges for the festival were Dr. John Wilton and Matt Roberts from Stetson University. The judging was based on creativity, technical merit, production abilities, and concept.
