ST. LUCIE COUNTY -

The Boys & Girls Club of St. Lucie County honored their members from the high school graduating class of 2012 with a graduation ceremony on June 7 at the Mac Mascioli Unit in Fort Pierce.

The seniors came from a variety of schools including: Fort Pierce Central High School, Fort Pierce Westwood High School, Lincoln Park Academy, Port St. Lucie High School and St. Lucie West Centennial.

The 2012 commencement address was given by Norm Penner, executive director.

Whimsy, a boutique in downtown Fort Pierce, awarded $6,000 in scholarships to four outstanding graduates from the annual Whimsy scholarship fund. The fund supports members who are graduating high school students who show aptitude and desire to pursue further education.

Dequisha Darville was awarded $2000, Victoria Castaneda was awarded $1,500, and Jack Rivers and Joshua Jimenez were both awarded $1,250.

After the ceremony, Aramark donated and provided graduates and guests with a spaghetti dinner reception.

By providing a safe place to learn and grow, as well as life-enhancing programs and character developing experiences, the club strives to enable all members, regardless of circumstance, to realize their full potential as caring, responsible and productive members of the community.
