Youth and adult rowing programs scheduled

The Halifax Rowing Association will launch its rowing programs.

The association plans to run seasonal rowing programs year-round for students ages 12 to 18 of all experience levels, with the goal of forming both recreational and competitive (Interscholastic) teams.

A six-week youth Summer Crew Program will begin June 13. It will be held from 8 to 10 a.m., Monday to Friday. The cost is $300 per person.

An Adult class will meet from 6 to 7:30 a.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning June 13.

During the six-week session, students will learn about the fundamentals of the sport and basic rowing techniques, as well as water safety, both on and off the water. Participants will spend time under the supervision and instruction of their coaches on the indoor rowing machines and out on the water in the association's sleek eight-person racing shells, with the goal of displaying their abilities in exhibition at the annual summer regatta on Saturday, July 23.

Participants may register in person or contact the general manager.
