Holly Hill beautifies Centennial Park
A new parking area using pervious concrete is being installed at Centennial Park, 408 10th St. in Holly Hill's community redevelopment district, according to Christopher Hurst, Public Works Director.
Unlike typical paving, rain water can penetrate the porous concrete which helps to restore the aquifer and using this "green" surface approach will assist in controlling storm water runoff, Mr. Hurst said.
The approximately 10,000 square foot environmentally friendly parking area will be surrounded by new sidewalks and curbing, and decorative planting beds will be added to showcase the improvement.
D & W Paving is the contractor for the CRA project.
The work is expected be completed by the end of the year.
Volusia County taxpayers are major financial contributors to the CRA district.

The Business Operations Center wins emergency management award
The Business Operations Center received the "Response Program of the Year" award from Florida's Division of Emergency Management.
The BOC is a partnership between the Center for Business Excellence, Volusia County Emergency Management, the Daytona Beach/Halifax Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Volusia County Chamber of Commerce Alliance.
The BOC manages a database of business contacts that have agreed to provide resources to other businesses during and after a disaster. These resources can be donated or made available at a predetermined cost.
This initiative helps businesses stay in business and employees stay employed during emergencies. It also offers the County additional resources from which to draw upon, increasing efficiencies of the County emergency management operation. Money that may have been spent elsewhere stays in the local economy. This strategy mobilizes critical resources in order to stabilize the community's economic base after a disaster.
The BOC was recognized among other nominees statewide for having a response program that demonstrated effective mobilization of response services during and after disasters.
New manager named
The Center for Business Excellence announced that Arva Campbell has been named as the new Daytona Beach One-Stop Manager.
Ms. Campbell will supervise the daily operations of the center as well as the delivery of workforce programs to job-seeking clients and business customers.
One of her most critical tasks will be to ensure that workforce programs within the center deliver value-added employment and training services to economically disadvantaged adults and youth, dislocated workers, and Welfare Transition Program participants located in Flagler and Volusia counties.
