WABASSO - Customers came from Barefoot Bay, Sebastian, Fellsmere and Vero Beach to celebrate Dasie Thrift Shop opening day on June 6.
As a commemorative special, the first young customer received a free pair of shoes and the first sale of the day received a 50 percent discount.
Volunteers couldn't sort and hang items fast enough to keep up with crowds.
The shop offers second-hand name-brand clothes for men and women, baby and children, plus toys, jewelry, DVDs and household décor.
"We had wonderful support from the community, especially the beachside residents, in donating items to stock the shop," said Colleen Flaherty, store manager.
"But to keep our doors open and to continue to support the good work Dasie Hope Center is doing, we will constantly need donations from our community members year round. We hope people will remember to think of us when cleaning out their homes," she said.
All donations to the store are tax deductible. Dasie Thrift is also looking for volunteers.
The store is located at 8860 U.S. 1, just north of the 510 Wabasso Bridge.
