Holocaust art exhibit opens
The fifth annual Holocaust Exhibit will open Tuesday, Sept. 11 and run through Sept. 21 at the Sara Fox Gallery - House, 110 N. Halifax Ave., Daytona Beach, directly behind the Ocean Center.
The exhibit, by artist Sara Auerbach - Fox, is a tribute to her parents and all that humanity lost
The exhibit consists of her mother's video testimony to the Michigan Holocaust Center in 1987, photos from the 1940s in Cyprus camp and Palestine and sculptures and Holocaust paintings.
Exhibit hours are from 1 to 5 p.m. and will be closed Thursday, Sept. 13.
Admission is free.

Youth to start tween radio program
Ten-year-old Shali "Space Boy" Jonzun premiered his weekly tween talk and entertainment show, Jonzun Radio Kids, from 12:30 to 1 p.m., Sept. 1, on www.WPUL1590.com and www.JonzunRadioKids.com.
Shali was production assistant and co-host over the past year of his dad's, Michael "Space Cowboy" Jonzun, All Star Music Talk Show, Audition Radio (www.AuditionRadio.com) that airs on WPUL 1590AM in Daytona Beach.
The targeted demographic for Jonzun Radio Kids is ages 7 to 14 and their families.
Kids and teens may become involved in his show and Web site. Listeners may contact the show through the Web site.
While Jonzun Radio Kids will be playing and interviewing signed teen recording artists, the show will give young indi artists air time.
Shali will continue to co-host audition radio, and his parents will be the producers of Jonzun Radio Kids. Shali can be heard from 12:30 to 1 p.m. each Saturday on his show, and again from 1 to 3 p.m. on Audition Radio.
A recent radio interview with Shali on Audition Radio, regarding his new show and featuring excerpts from his interviews with Walter Scott of The Whispers and the Rev. Al Sharpton, is available on his Web site.
Holly Hill library to host Recovery Month photo exhibit
The Holly Hill Public Library will host a photo exhibit throughout September in recognition of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
The photos, taken by residential clients of the Stewart-Marchman Center, were collected by Patrick Van Dusen, a senior professor of photography at Daytona Beach Community College.
Mr. Van Dusen volunteers with Stewart-Marchman's Residential Adolescent Program, handing out cameras and assignments to help the youths look inside themselves and deeper into the world around them. Assignments include "my problem," "missed opportunities," "inspiration," "strength," "hope" and "reflection."
Mr. Van Dusen will speak about the project and photographs at the library at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 7, 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, and 3:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28.
The library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, at 1066 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill.

Little Theatre to host auditions
Auditions for "Catch Me If You Can," a mystery by Robert Thomas, will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 9 and Monday, Sept. 10 in the rehearsal hall of the Little Theatre, 726 Third Ave., New Smyrna Beach.
Roles are available for two women and five men, all ages. Some roles may be doubled.
Auditions are open to the public and no experience is necessary. Readings will be from the script, and a copy is available at the New Smyrna Beach Library.

Artist of the month announced
Betty Ruth Swanitz is September's artist.
Ms. Swanitz had a career in law enforcement in Macon County, N.C., as a sheriff's deputy and a corrections officer.
She was born to Dorothy E. Buchanan, a well-known decorative china painter in Orlando, but she left the state as a teenager.
Ms. Swanitz began oil painting in the early 1980s as a form of therapy after the death of her son. Both of her surviving sons are painters, one in trompe l'oeil and faux painting with a specialty in restoration of historic buildings and the other has recently started in watercolors.
Mrs. Swanitz returned to the central Florida area in 1995 and has resided in Edgewater for the past five years.
Her work can be seen at the Edgewater Historical Museum Art Exhibit Room, 1108 S. Ridgewood Ave., in the Leisure Services Building.
Introduction to digital photography course scheduled
Students will learn how to share family photos, download images to a computer, do basic editing, file saving and printing and e-mailing to friends and family. Students also will learn the menu functions and features of a digital camera to take better photos. Also, business owners will learn how to create images for a business.
The six-week introduction to digital photography course offered through Daytona Beach Community College's Center for Community & Professional Education begins Monday, Sept. 10, and concludes Monday, Oct. 15. Classes are held 6 to 8 p.m. each Monday at the DBCC New Smyrna Beach-Edgewater campus in Building 2, Room 102.
The cost is $120.
Participants must bring his or her own digital cameras and have basic computer skills. Classes are limited to 20 students.

Monday: Ella Lawless will teach "Beginning Watercolor" from 9 a.m. to noon; Donna Francis, "Various Art Subjects" from 1 to 4 p.m.; and Regina Wise, "Teen Expressions Workshop" from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m.
Tuesday: Carolyn Land will teach "Mixed Media & Experimental Art" from 9 a.m. to noon and Suzanne Ryan, "Oils" from 1 to 4 p.m.
Wednesday: Dot Backes will monitor the open studio from 9 a.m. to noon; Christophe Cardot, "Framing & Matting" from 1 to 4 p.m.; Rafael Torres, "Beginners Level 1, Digital Photography" from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.; and Lisa Lloyd-Blais, "Art 101 (Intro to All Media ) & Oil Painting" from 6 to 9 p.m.
Thursday: Christophe Cardo will teach "Pastel Painting" from 9 to noon and Julianne Felton, "Acrylic" from 1 to 4 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: The studio is open to members only from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m.

Theater Workshop to hold auditions
Auditions for "The Days of Whines and Poses," the latest original musical comedy of the Theater Workshop, will be held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Performing Arts Center's first floor conference room.
Area actors, singers and dancers may auditions for this two-act play by Lois Miller, marking her eighth year as a playwright/director for the workshop's senior acting troupe.
The comedy centers around the annual convention of the Magnificent Knights of the Buffet Table. When these senior members check in to K'Mon Inn, a less than upscale hotel, they encounter several characters whose sinister motives lead to complications.
"Whines and Poses" will be presented Jan. 25-27 at the Performing Arts Center.
Tickets cost $15; all proceeds benefit the Performing Arts Center.
