WABASSO - A national retailer has donated clothing for children who spend there valued after school time at a local center.

"Brand new clothing helps restore our children's dignity and self-esteem and really helps people that are struggling to get back on their feet," said Verna Wright, executive director of Dasie Bridgewater Hope Center.

She is referring to the generous donations that come from Stein Mart. The Dasie Bridgewater Hope Center partnered with the retailer last year.

Stein Mart partnered with Dignity U Wear Foundation, which generously donates brand new clothing to nonprofit agencies.

"We like to do this because we provide brand new clothing. That's our niche," said Liz Minor, special projects coordinator for Dignity U Wear.

Stein Mart and Dignity U Wear are based in Jacksonville, and joined forces in 2003.

The partnership provides new clothing for women, men and children.

The center receives over $10,000 in clothing four times a year.

"Last August kids received clothing just in time for school and it made them feel great," Ms. Wright said.

The center's coordinators and teachers submit the size of each child, split the clothes, and distributes them. Each child receives two shirts, and pants or jeans.

"They like to dress up. The staff feels good knowing they feel good and won't be bullied at school," said Kim Wright, assistant director for Dasie Bridgewater Hope Center.

In 2005, Dignity U Wear provided $15 million of clothing in 31 states.

The children receive typical clothing such as white polo shirts and khakis.

"I feel proud and better at school," said 7-year-old, Erika, who received items on her birthday.

Center coordinators believe the clothing is a relief for some parents.

"This allows the parents to make other decisions with their money, which can meet more important needs," said Diane Mahan, director of development for Dasie Hope Center.

The center opened in the old Douglass School building after many renovations providing children ages 5 to 18 an after school activities and curriculum. The curriculum includes lessons in manners to life skills.

The partnership between the company and organization is thrilling to many.

"This is a great example of a corporation teaming to help a non profit," said Mrs. Minor.
